As a result of our hectic schedules and busy lives, we tend to neglect giving love to the person that needs it most – ourselves. This month, celebrate you and your goals, dreams, successes, and failures. Set aside time to celebrate for yourself and cultivate joy, and embrace the things that create the most joy for you. Use my top five ways to celebrate and bring more joy into your life.
1. Get Active
Make time in your daily schedule to engage in movement and exercise. All of our bodies are different, so don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, change it up, or explore different options. Engage in the physical activities that are most meaningful to you and helps to bring joy into your day. Science proves that exercise boosts levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine – your body’s “feel-good” neurotransmitters, so sweat daily to boost your mood!
2. Go Outside
Whether it be stepping outdoors to watch the sunrise or taking a short walk outside with your closest friends, step outside and celebrate what nature has to offer. Take notice of the small details in your natural environment that surrounds you everyday, such as observing the different colors of the leaves or listening to the sounds of the beach. Going outside and surrounding yourself with fresh air also invigorates your lungs and cleanses the body of negativity, permitting more space for joy and celebration.
3. Connect with the people you love
We are social creatures and we are on this planet to connect with each other. As an introvert, I often find myself hibernating in my own space and have to consciously make time to connect with friends. Every time I do, it fills my cup with joy and gratitude. Being around supportive people you love and who love you can help ward off depression, inspire your creativity, and foster feelings of community and a sense of belonging.
4. Maintain Your Sleep Schedule
Getting a full night’s rest can largely affect how you go about your day! Scientific studies show that a full eight-hour’s worth of rest can lower your chances of experiencing mood swings and can directly link to your levels of positive thinking! Try to set a specific time that you go to sleep and a specific time in which you wake up in the mornings so that you have consistency in your sleep schedule. Maintain this schedule daily so that your body can feel fully rejuvenated in the mornings and be ready to celebrate both the joys and challenges that will arrive throughout the day.
5. Go on a “Self-Date”
When was the last time you took yourself out on a date? Visit your favorite restaurant, lace up your hiking boots and hit your favorite trail, go for a drive, watch a movie, or draw a hot bath and light some candles for a night of self-pampering. You are worthy of your own love and self-care!
